Amy Winehouse, a famous singer the world over, was found dead on July 23, 2011. She was 27 years old.

Evidently, there is something about the age 27 in the pop music expressed in the English language. There is a so-called “The 27 Club”. Other very famous music stars dead at the age of 27:

Janice Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Jim Morrison

Their first names start with J.

Others:

Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones
Kurt Cobain of Nirvana

Copycats in tragedy with the obvious scope of gaining immortality? Who started first in the music world — by “intentional” dying? I think it was Mozart (27 + 5). Mozart forced himself to death while composing the famous ‘Requiem’.

Beethoven was much older when he “allowed” himself to die. Beethoven abused alcohol so much that he would fall in the streets of his hometown (Bonn) — and children would pee on him!

Tchaikovsky insisted to drinking contaminated water during a cholera epidemic in Moscow. He refused wine and badly wanted contaminated water! It was soon after he had finished his famous ‘Pathétique’. Tchaikovsky was 27 years old!

They made great films about the three classics, plus Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison (Oscar-winning ‘The Doors’) and Janice Joplin.

In my opinion, it all started with the most famous J of them all (as spelled in the English-speaking world): Jesus. He was not a musician, but many hymns about him are sung every Sunday in churches around the world. Based on Saul (later Saint Paul) literary creation, J of Nazareth would have “allowed” himself to die in the year 27 “A.D.”

Lady Gaga (25 now) is another famous musician, greatly inspired by Amy Winehouse. Those close to Lady Gaga should keep a close eye when she turns 27! Copycat tragedies in any field are very contagious, unfortunately . . .

“Lady Gaga, Gaga Lady,
Your style is so bladey
Take a break or cool it down,
Make it chilly . . . wear a gown!”
