    Ion.....Make/Break Question

    Hello Ion,
Hope all is well with you. I haven't posted in awhile. It seems I just don't have as much free time in the past few months, as I would like. Things are going well here. Now with the weather getting colder, its less time that I want to spend my free time doing work outside. I really dislike the cold weather. So lately, I have been getting back in the BRIGHT5 groove!!

And that brings me to a question I have for you. If I have two different TOP5 files (one with 12 top pairings, and one with 16 top pairings), and I concatenate those 2 files, will the BREAK option break the concatenated file correctly? I wasn't sure if the break option would break a file accurately, if the file (being Broken down) has different line lenghts.

    THANKS

Hey, Brian! Good to see you! Another Pennsylvanian PMed me about you. We thought you had won the lottery big-time! Never mind — Time has not ended!

You asked me a good question. I don’t remember all the stuff in my software. So, I always look at the source code to see how a feature works.

In your case, the Make/Break function in Super Utilities opens first the input file and counts the lines. Then, it takes each line separately and counts the number of elements. So, you can have any number of lines, with different amounts of numbers in each line.

But, in your case, the 16-line pair file will include the 12-line file. Unless, of course, the two pairing files are created for different pivots or different parpalucks.

    Best of luck!

    Yes, different parpalucks are used.

Thanks for the quick reply! I knew you would refer to the source code within the software itself. That is definetly the most accurate way of making sure.

    Thanks my FRIEND!

Yeah! I meant Go, Flyers! It’s that time of year — NOT YET!

I am a playoff guy only. The regular season is way too long! Curiously, I did watch an ice-hockey game following the NFL Thanksgiving Day games on TV.

They showed the most t talented athlete in all professional sports: Pavel Datsyuk of the Red Army (I mean, Red Wings!) Detroit team. Man, how great an athlete can be! He passed the puck from his right leg to his left leg … and then he scored …. Never seen it before!!!! But, not to be forgotten, Pavel Datsyuk also scored in a shootout game … when he stopped just in front of the goalie … and scooped the puck in the net … above the goalie’s glove …

I could only hope that your Flyers had a Pavel Datsyuk guy … or any other pro team, for that matter … I would become a staunch ice-hockey fan !!!!!! Zdarov, Pavel! Yedan vodka za mi!

Brian it is nice to see you back posting.

    I missed your posts.

I was the one who PM'd Ion about you. I was living in Pennsylvania until June 2011 since then I moved to New Jersey.

Glad to see you back. Looking forward to your postings again. I would also like to extend my offer to you and Ion when I hit the 5/40 New Jersey game to split it 3 ways.

    Winsumloosesum:

I might not be in the best mood … I’ve had a tough week with toothaches. Hopefully, you’ll be more understanding.

It’s nice to hear what you say about a 3-way split of the New Jersey 5/40 lotto. The odds are about 1/3 better than Pennsylvania’s 5/43. It is hard to play like that, though … like by correspondence …

Listen, this is not to offend you. I’ve always had a problem with playing the lottery in a syndicate. It’s hard for a person to take care of every play, at least two days a week. I was in a group … once the designated player was unable to buy tickets. Not to mention, that once I had a terrible event, when I depended on another person to give me a ride!

Again, this is not about you. But I heard of syndicate cases. The organizer(s) of the lottery syndicate doesn’t even play the lottery! They know the odds. They know they will NOT win most of the time. In cases of rare wins, the syndicate boss can afford to pay the prize to the members! Not to mention that the syndicates charge much higher fees for the tickets.

Playing lottery in a group is adequate, in my opinion, only for people who live close to one another and see one another in person.

    Best of luck!

    By the way –
Most lottery syndicates always play LOTTO WHEELS! Or, so they say! The lotto wheels guarantee LOWER PRIZES, but definitely skip high prizes. Thus, the lotto syndicate boss is assured of paying only little money in “prizes” — far and few between cases … Just save the money, lottery boss! Don’t play the lottery! Winning the jackpot with a lotto wheel is an extremely rare occurrence (you can simply run away!)

Another googoo in my days in rec.gambling.lottery advanced a theory that sounded really weird. He advanced the idea that playing lotto wheels is advantageous regarding income taxes (USA only). He did have a point. The lotto wheels might assure more frequent wins as people play more lotto numbers. The wins are meager, indeed. But they are wins and they allow the player to deduct the lottery losses! One won $100 but spent $1000 … thus, $900 deducted from income …

I do NOT recommend to anyone in the U.S. to apply such a theory to filing income tax returns!
